Why Should You Consider a Design-Build Approach?

Eliza,

When it comes to tackling a home renovation project, you have two types of approach: the traditional way, which involves an architect and a general contractor, or the design-build way. As a trusted kitchen and bathroom remodeling contractor in the area, we believe that you’re better off going with the latter approach for these reasons.

Design-Build Approach

Total Accountability

A design-build team is accountable for all the aspects of the renovation, including the design, project cost and timeline of completion. Since only one group designs and builds the project, there’s a great deal of focus on the details, especially when it comes to pricing and scheduling during the design phase. The design-built team will make sure that the construction costs, landscaping allowances, certifications and other important considerations are taken into account early on in the process.

Expert Knowledge

A design-build firm is knowledgeable in both fields, which helps a lot in ensuring

New book includes some of Melania Trump’s White House decorating

Eliza,

Comment

During her husband’s four years in office, Melania Trump and her interior designer, Tham Kannalikham, declined interview and photography requests about the decorating of the second-floor rooms and private quarters of the White House. But photos in the new 60th anniversary edition of “The White House: An Historic Guide” reveal that there was a whole lot of swagging, fringing and gilding going on upstairs.

All presidential families leave their mark on the White House, although they don’t know how long their design changes will stay in place. This 26th edition of the official guide — published by the White House Historical Association, which funds much of the refurbishing — was released July 28, the birthday of former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy. She nurtured the idea of the White House as a living museum and conceived the guidebook in 1962 to give visitors a comprehensive reference guide to it.

Eliza,

Interior Designers: Madison Lanci, of Milana Custom Homes
Builders: Brandon Lanci, of Milana Custom Homes
Architect: Daniel Currea, of DC-Studio Architecture and Planning
Photographers: Jonathan Scott, of Gulfstorm Films & Photography

Madison and Brandon Lanci have brought hundreds of dream houses to life for others as the owners of Tampa-based Milana Custom Homes. So when it came to creating their own living quarters, they had plenty of experience and a clear vision for what they craved coming home to.

“I wanted somewhere that was warm and inviting,” says Madison, who designed their house. “We have a big family and I wanted open spaces for us to gather and entertain.”

The exterior architecture captures the spirit of a modern French chateau with traditional gas lanterns and stained wood elements.

A big family indeed, the Lancis have four children, Milana, 7; Noah, 4; Haven, 3; and Zane, 1; as well as an

Lafco’s Founder Talks Bringing Apothecary Vibes and Home Design iInto Candles

Eliza,

Thirty years strong, and smelling fresher than ever.

Distributor-turned-beauty brand Lafco is feting its 30th anniversary, and what started as a celebration of European apothecaries has turned into a bastion of home fragrance that has also expanded into body and skin care.

More from WWD

Jon Bresler, the brand’s founder and president, isn’t done moving the needle. “What we’re seeing in home fragrance is that, as the candle market and diffuser market become saturated, there’s been a race toward what the next best device is for diffusing fragrance in an environment, and we’re starting to see the rise of at-home diffusers,” he said. “Clearly, that is part of the Lafco trajectory in the future.”

“I want to continue evolving this business by reinforcing Lafco’s position as the leader in art glass presentation of candles and home fragrance products,” he continued.

To that end, the brand’s roots are in an appreciation

Jimmy Fallon, Cara Delevingne’s Tonight Show Home-Decor Chat

Eliza,

Photo: Architectural Digest/YouTube

Instead of converting it into a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Cara Delevingne has chosen to live in the $10.8 million questionably decorated Gramercy Park triplex she bought from Jimmy Fallon. As she told Fallon on The Tonight Show this week, she loves the decor — basically the Overlook Hotel in The Shining with a maximalist color palette. “I’ve kept it all. It’s creepy,” she said. “I tried to design my house in LA basically like that without knowing that house.”

Delevingne is telling the truth! She has described her LA home — an English-country-style mansion built in 1941 for the founders of the Vons supermarket chain — as an “adult playhouse” and it lives up to the reputation: There’s a costume dress-up room, a Lynchian poker room, and, naturally , a ball pit. She cites escape rooms and Hugh Hefner as influences, both of which are
